Blue-banded bees are among Australia’s most charismatic solitary bees and were crowned Australian Insect of the Year 2024 for their striking colours and fascinating behaviour.
This enamel pin is inspired by a male blue-banded bee roosting on a plant stem. At night, male blue-banded bees, like many solitary bees, grip stems with their legs and mandibles to rest. This remarkable behaviour is especially interesting as males do not live inside nests.
We partnered with the talented designer @a_sea_revolution to bring this special moment to life.
